Bioretention Ponds

A bioretention pond is a sustainable stormwater management practice designed to capture, treat, and control stormwater runoff. The construction of a bioretention pond involves excavation, liner installation, constructing underdrain system at bottom of pond, adding specialized soil mix to support plant growth and effectively treat stormwater, constructing inlet and outlet structures to control flow of stormwater into and out of the pond, and designing an overflow system to manage excess water during heavy storms and adding mulch and gravel layers to the surface to reduce erosion. These practices promote infiltration and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the pond.
